‘A wise man once told me: “Every day is a school day”. So I develop my craft each day, learning to be true to myself, to follow instinct, to enjoy the ride and to find balance between hard work, lightheartedness, laughter and love. I enjoy being surrounded by nature and connected to life. I have the good fortune to work on projects that inspire and are meaningful to me- and I play my part by telling the stories honestly. My adventures have taken me to Brazil, Costa Rica, Peru, London, Mozambique, Tanzania, Thailand, Italy, Paris and further, collaborating with clients such as The BBC, WWF, Discovery Channel and Red Bull, amongst others.

Jonn remembers spending every free moment watching feature films on VHS cassettes when he was very young. His grandfather was a photographer who owned a video shop, so Jonn and his brother always had first pick of the latest releases and he believes it was in these years that the magic of moving images was ingrained into his soul. The aesthetics, composition and rhythms of all he has seen he now feels inside himself, when shooting. He instinctively knows when a scene is coming to life, or when something needs to be tweaked to bring it out. He believes that creativity is divine. It can strike in the middle of the night when everything has gone to sleep and yet, simultaneously, it’s like a slow boiling pot… Jonn talks of his treasure chest of ideas, constantly hovering in the rafters of his imagination until the perfect project comes along and his concepts eventually come to life. A wanderer, questioner and seeker in his early twenties, he travelled through the Far East, south east Asia and the subcontinent for a few years, before returning to South Africa to study cinematography and film directing at university.

Jonn now works with all his heart, and has since delved into commercial shorts: covering electronic music festivals, sustainable living promos, Italian tourism shorts and intimate portraits of selected artists, all of whom aim to progressively alter society; a principle Jonn firmly shares.
